Very rare exercise musket M1793/94 for the Danish Jæger Corps.

 Total length = 117 cm Barrel length = 79.5 cm Cal = 18 mm

The Danish Jaeger Corps traces its origins to 1785 when was formed as a light infantry force from hunters and woodsmen, in response to emerging threats from Sweden, Prussia, and Great Britain.

Whilst Appearing very similar to the standard M1794 infantry musket, this gun does not have the usual third rectangular sliding barrel pin and has no bayonet fixing.

The barrel is in good condition for the age and has some interesting markings on the underside. The vent is neat, with clear passage to the breech.

The lock is also in good condition again for the age and is in good working order.

Detail of the underside of the barrel also indicates the use of only two sliding rectangular pins and one round one that supports the front sling-swivel (see photo); another change from the standard M1793/94 infantry musket patterns. Such drill muskets were made for the Danish Jæger Corps and are known as Eksersergeværs or exercise muskets (Ref: http://norskevaapen.no).

The stock has a few minor cracks and dents but has not been overly touched. A repair can be seen just behind the cocking leaver. The butt-plate is held in place with large iron studs. The standard M1794 Jæger musket is longer by approximately 9 cm and has a lug type bayonet fixing.
